Knii Lante ( pronounced ~ nee lantaye ) is a musician coming from the West African state of Ghana.
He grew up in Accra ( the capital city ) feeding on the music of Wulomei, Osibisa, Fela, AB Crentsil , and many other African musicians.
Later, growing up , he was also very much influenced and inspired by the music of Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Abba and then Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Steel Pulse, Babyface etc.
At those early stages while still in secondary and medical school, his musical talents began to really unfold. Soon, his friends and local mentors Nat Azu/Impromptu and Roots Anabo encouraged him to start writing his own music and to record them. ( He even back then independently put out a collection of songs under the title Bo Noo. )
The inevitable outcome of involving in these multiple life interests and influences is that he is now both a practicing physician specialist and musician sometimes affectionately referred to as the "singing doctor". KK, an integral member of Deluge Music/Entertainment has on a lighter side often referred to him as " the Father of Medi-Sing" ! Lol !
A songwriter and composer , he not only also plays the piano and guitar but also sings well enough to have earned him the best male vocal performer in his home country on 2 occasions.
He has recorded , locally released and collaborated on a fine number of singles under the local management company of Deluge Music/Entertainment.
In 2010 he released his first local major album "Love and Revolution" ( produced by his longtime friend Zapp Mallet, and Robert Johnson and Joe Amoah ) which had remarkable songs like Rocky Road ( a tribute to Dr Kwame Nkrumah ) , his remake of his earlier Ga classic "Bo Noo", When You Love Someone ( feat. Trigmatic ) , and the unforgettable "Lagos to Vienna ". His vocal delivery on this album won him his second GMA recognition ( the first being for his collaboration with Michael Dwamena on the hit song "Ngozi" a couple of years earlier ). The song "Rocky Road" then went on to win him a nomination and then the actual Yaa Asantewa award at the first Bass Awards in Ghana.
At the end of 2012 he locally released a silky reggae ( promo) single "House of Pain", recorded in Jamaica with producer Dean Fraser , which won him yet another GMA award.
In a few months Knii will be releasing his next album "True Feelings" under the management of Deluge Music/Ent. and Don Green ( Synergy productions) which will feature artistes Queen Ifrica, Cherine Anderson, G Blunt under international producers, Michel Bennett, Dean Fraser and Joe Amoah. The date of the release will soon be announced but this album promises to be the most exciting so far from ...... the "Doc" !
